Technology obviously has changed the way we live, the way we share and the way we interact. The bike industry strikes me as one of those industries that has made huge headways in recent years. Suspension forks in particular are to be blessed/blamed for the rougher trails we face today.
Today whilst reading up on a tech guide from fox racing i stumbled upon this picture.
I was flabbergasted. I mean there are so many things packed into so little place i didn’t know which text to focus on first. To many people it will basically seem like marketing but you cannot deny whatever they are doing they are doing for “incremental” performance gains every year. Technologies like qr15/tapered forks/x12-142mm could all be seen as marketing tricks but without these incremental innovations i am fairly certain we would still be stuck in the age of elastomers. Would any of those incremental innovations feel a whole lot different by themselves? Nope. Would a whole bunch of those incremental innovations feel different added together? You bet!
Things have come a long way since the days of the elastomer forks. Our forks are generally lighter, more reliable and generally better to ride. I have no doubt at the core of this is a whole heap of incremental innovations added together which has brought us today’s modern suspension fork. The one and same you trust to take you down that technical trail whilst allowing you to have fun at the same time.
