Getting my fitness back?

It has being 6 weeks since my accident and i am looking to get back on. Firstly mostly on the trainer and maybe a few commute sessions on the road on the mtb. What would you guys recommend to build back up to my old fitness? Mellow long rides? Short intense rides? or a mixture of all?

    slowly slowly first.
    Build a base again with the longer zone 3 rides then build from there.
